The Art Alliance at 18th and Rittenhouse was, formerly, a stately residence. It's contemporary gallery does not conform to the sterile, “white cube” mold of stereotypical art venues. Heather Ujiie, textile artist, designer and design educator immediately capitalized on this in a manner that befits the sophisticated, expressive nature of her innovative artwork.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2014 DesignPhiladelphia Festival a success! Our Festival is an annual event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, and this past week we celebrated our 10th anniversary. In over 130 events across the Greater Philadelphia area, we showcased the work of over 400 practicing architects, designers, and creative professionals and we demonstrated the force of Philadelphia’s design, tech, and collaborative business practices.

You might have seen the photo: a trio of women huddled together for HughE Dillon’s camera at last week’s DesignPhiladelphia opening party. One of these women wore a sunny yellow-and-white striped cardigan, another wore a magenta infinity scarf, and the third, well, she attached a strap to a dead baby lamb and carried it around as a purse.

DesignPhiladelphia proudly presents, Lairs of Self, the closing program for the Festival’s 10th anniversary. Designers Sean Martorana and Dejha Ti have created an immersive installation - an imaginative integration of projection mapping, filmed design experiments, and interactive elements. 360 degree video projections wrap onto the colossal walls of the 5,000 square foot Crane Arts’ Icebox, and appear precisely on a 12 foot, one ton sculpture made of Dupont™ Corian®. (It’s not just for counter tops anymore!)

To celebrate Roche Bobois’ 40th anniversary in the United States, the French high-end furniture design company has collaborated with an outstanding American designer, Stephen Burks, on The Traveler Collection - which captures a multi-cultural and well-traveled way of life.
