Delaware Valley FOODWORX is a four phase redevelopment proposal centered around the timeless need for food security. A local project with regional and global implications, FOODWORX presents a model to address a growing problem facing urban areas in developed and developing countries.

The Delaware Valley FOODWORX initiative - a multiphase approach to addressing the growing food scarcity issues facing the Philadelphia region - proposed by a team from Cornell University takes first prize in the 2015 Better Philadelphia Challenge. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000 at an awards ceremony featuring Dr. Judith Rodin, president of The Rockefeller Foundation and 2015 Ed Bacon Prize honoree.

Twenty artists have been selected from Philadelphia’s pool of nationally and internationally renowned artists and designers. These artists will reimagine an unassuming IKEA ® mirror for the Reflecting Design Silent Auction, the main attraction of our 2014 PopUp Place Kick-Off Benefit and Party. Bidding on these one-of-a-kind creations will begin online prior to PopUp Place, until then have a look through the incredible portfolios of our selected artists.

Visit Philly, as part of the With Love, Philadelphia XOXO campaign, is running a photo contest now through August 3rd. The contest is open to regional residents, visitors, and fans for the chance to engage with Philadelphia and show off their best Philly image on a Phillyosophy billboard. The winning photo will appear on an I-95 billboard this fall as part of the popular With Love, Philadelphia XOXO campaign.

PAFA presents David Lynch: The Unified Field
on view September 13, 2014 through January 11, 2015. The Unified Field is the first major US museum exhibition of David Lynch, who attended PAFA briefly in the 60's, featuring works from all periods of the filmmaker’s career: approximately 90 paintings and drawings from 1965 to present, many of which have rarely or never been shown to the public.

On Friday, September 19th, Philadelphia will celebrate the international event known as Park(ing) Day. Dozens of interactive parks will appear on the streets of Philadelphia as artists, activists, planners, local businesses, and Philly residents take over metered parking spots, all in an effort to promote green and pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.

The 17th annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival, dubbed Brave New Voices, is coming to Philadelphia this week. Read more about BNV on the web here. The week of events, celebrating and challenging creative approaches to literary arts education and literacy development in young people, culminates this weekend with Hoodstock, presented in partnership with Philadelphia Urban Creators. This event will feature discussions and learning opportunities on gardening, permaculture, food justice, free breakfast, storytelling, live performances and community activism. Featured programming includes urban gardening, the MC Olympic Finals, and food grown by Philadelphia Urban Creators. Featured Presenters include host Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Astronauts Really Fly, among others.

The City of Philadelphia Commerce Department and the Community Design Collaborative seek nominations to identify the most distinctive, recently improved storefronts in Philadelphia. Nominations should be submitted online using this form. Entries will be evaluated by a jury consisting of economic development and design professionals, and the winning projects will be recognized at a ceremony on October 14. The event will highlight businesses that have demonstrated care and uniqueness in how they represent themselves to their customers and the public through their storefronts.
