AIA Philadelphia & the Philadelphia Center for Architecture Seeks New Executive Director
Last week, John Claypool, FAIA announced that he will be stepping down as Executive Director of AIA Philadelphia and the Center for Architecture later this year. Claypool has served as Executive Directori of the AIA Philadelphia since 2001 and spearheaded the relocation of the Chapter and opening of the Center for Architecture in 2008. AIA Philadelphia (the Chapter) serves as the voice of the architectural profession in Greater Philadelphia, is a resource for its members’ professional development, and is a vehicle for their service to society. In these roles it engages government and thought leaders in respect to policies affecting the built environment and public space. It advances new ideas and supports the members’ continuing education to improve architectural practice, and it promotes the members’ interests in matters affecting the business and legal context of professional practice. Finally, it focuses the talents of its members in advancing the public’s interests in a built environment that best serves it. The Center for Architecture (the Center) serves as a hub where Chapter members, members of allied and affiliated design and construction organizations, government and thought leaders and the public at large can celebrate this community’s rich architectural history, discuss and debate its architectural future, and in so doing make better informed decisions which impact the built environment that impacts them. The Center’s physical space not only permits this assembly of voices and place for exchange but also houses a bookstore and retail space helping to draw attention and financial support for that organization’s mission.
