In recognition of DesignPhiladelphia’s10th anniversary, Old City District presents the Old City Fest—a celebration of art and design, fashion and food, creativity and culture on the streets of America’s most historic square mile. The Old City Fest will highlight the region’s premier art and design district while showcasing local designers, creative firms, restaurants, retailers, galleries, theater, culture, history, and architecture.

Set in Independence National Historic Park, Carpenter’s Hall has been continuously owned and operated since 1770 by The Carpenters’ Company of the City and County of Philadelphia, the oldest trade guild in America. The building hosted the First Continental Congress in1774, and was also home to Ben Franklin’s Library Company, The American Philosophical Society, and the First and Second Banks of the United States.
When: Both exhibitions open on First Friday, October 3rd and will continue through November 30th. A DesignPhiladelphia reception will be held on Friday, October 10th from 5:30-8pm. At 7pm, The Clay Studio will be hosting a live taping of ceramic artist Ben Carter’s Tales of a Red Dirt Rambler podcast featuring Bobby Silverman, Gettysburg, PA-based potter Tina Gebhart and Michael Strand, who is known for his social projects involving ceramics.
DesignPhiladelphia is celebrating its tenth year as America’s preeminent showcase for educating the public about design with its annual fundraiser and Festival kickoff - PopUp Place, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm at Bluecadet (1526 Frankford Avenue). The evening will feature the Reflecting Design Silent Auction of one-of-a-kind works imagined, designed, and donated by internationally-renowned, Philadelphia-based artists, architects, and designers.

Join mixed media artist Dan Cutrone as he speaks about his interest in exploring the relationship between the natural world and a digitally designed world. Cutrone’s work combines traditional glass making techniques with the aid of computerized design programs and machinery. One foot in the hand-made and one foot in the manufactured world is where Cutrone’s work lies, embracing the overlap between art, craft and design.

During this year’s DesignPhiladelphia Festival, Digitas Health LifeBrands will be hosting an evening talk with AOL’s Senior Manager of Consumer Analytics & Research Maureen Dawson. Dawson will present AOL’s research on the Millennial Generation. Applying this research to the world of design, Maureen will delve into how designers from all disciplines can better understand Millennials and successfully target this powerful generation.
