Celebrate A Decade of Design with the DesignPhiladelphia Festival this October. The annual event commemorates technology and architecture in Philadelphia and exhibits the work of more than 400 local designers, architects, and creative businesses. Previously housed at the University of the Arts, this year the festival will operate from the Philadelphia Center for Architecture; DesignPhiladelphia Founder and Executive Director Hilary Jay was recently named director of the Center for Architecture, as well.

Engineered to showcase the role of design in everyday life, the festival will highlight the work of 450 of the Philadelphia's most inventive thinkers and organizations in more than 120 events -- the majority of which are free.

After decades of research and teaching, Dr. Peter Lloyd Jones founded, and now directs, the breakthrough [email protected], at The Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia. This research and education incubator seeks to imbue medical education with design thinking and practice “always filtered through human experience,” as Jones says. “Design is a humanistic pursuit.”

As part of Asian Arts Initiative’s residency with Rick Lowe and the Pearl Street Project, AAI is hosting a series of community-sourced weekly mini-events along Pearl Street throughout the summer. The series is designed to activate the alley with creative ideas from the Chinatown North and Callowhill communities, and is meant to encourage neighbors and visitors to get together to share and exchange talents and interests.
