DesignPhiladelphia is celebrating our 10th anniversary this year from October 9-17th; and our team is so excited about what's in store we want to share! We invite all those interested in participating in the Festival by organizing and/or sponsoring an event to attend an information session on the evening of May 29th, from 5:30-7:00pm at the Philadelphia Center for Architecture.

In honor of DesignPhiladelphia’s 10th anniversary celebration—and a decade of great design across the region—professional and amateur designers of all ages are invited to creatively reinvent this classic IKEA® mirror as part of the Reflecting Design Silent Auction. Five winning design submissions will be selected by a panel of esteemed jurors; each winner will receive a mirror, generously donated by auction sponsor IKEA®, to bring their concept to life.

The Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby is this Saturday! If you don't know by now, The Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby is a local design competition and parade of human powered vehicle floats. The KKSD was started in 2007 as an Economic Development Initiative of the New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) to compliment the East Kensington Neighbors Association's Trenton Avenue Arts Festival.

Philadelphia (May 6, 2014) - Event registration is now open for the 10th annual DesignPhiladelphia Festival, a signature event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, being held October 9 through October 17, 2014. The Center invites any and all creative industry professionals working in the Philadelphia region to participate in this year's program via DesignPhiladelphia’s new website, developed by Jarvus Innovations. Also, for the first time, DesignPhiladelphia is accepting event proposals from local design students and emerging professionals through its SEED initiative, which will grant ten free spots on this year’s Festival calendar.

The advent of 3-D printing and its potential impacts on the future of design will be the subjects of the annual spring lecture organized by Collab, the group for modern and contemporary design at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Hod Lipson, co-author of Fabricated: The New World of 3D Design, will discuss his recent book and share his outlook on dramatic advances that offer the possibility of loading printers with dough, sugar, chocolate, or edibles to make design worthy food. Lipson will also consider the social implications of making such small-scale commodity production tools, previously employed by a few, available to almost anyone.
