Shop handmade goods, see demonstrations, and visit the remarkable new building of Tyler School of Art at Temple University for the Art Market at Tyler. For the 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival, on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12, Tyler will host artists and craftspeople selling work throughout the 160,000 square foot facility on Temple University's campus. Participating artists are being selected by Erin Waxman and Megan Brewster, owners of Art Star Gallery and Boutique. Visitors can also watch and participate in demonstrations, such as silk screening by local phenom, Candy Coated.

Drexel's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design invites you to experience first-hand one of our region's premiere design educational institutions as part of the 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival. The URBN Center, a 140,000 square foot facility of immersive and collaborative learning spaces, includes a state-of-the-art Hybrid Making lab, Gaming Lab, Motion Capture studio, computerized knit prototyping studio, and outstanding studios dedicated to architecture, fashion, product design, graphic design and interior design. Experience one of the region's hidden treasures - Drexel's Historic Costume Collection, featuring over 12,000 historic and iconic garments and fashion accessories, as well as demos of 3D printing and laser cutters.

This month Art of Life features DesignPhiladelphia as we approach the upcoming event running October 10th through October 18th. The 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival is a citywide event that unites the region’s dynamic creative community by bringing together individuals and organizations from across the design spectrum, placing a spotlight on Philadelphia as a hub of creativity and innovation. The Festival, attended by thousands of design aficionados celebrates the past, present and future of Philadelphia design, while highlighting the region’s dynamic creative economy and increasing awareness of the role design plays in our everyday lives. This year’s theme, EXPERIENCEdesign! will spark emotions and engage the senses.

This exhibition will feature some of the latest furniture, toys, tableware, wallpaper, and textiles designed internationally in Australia, Asia, Europe, Great Britain, and the United States, along with classics from the Museum’s design collection. A number of these objects will make their American debut in the exhibition, from Marie-Louise Groot Kormelink’s Dutch rowhouse wardrobes and a contemporary-style dollhouse, to Josefina Bentzen and Charlotte Skak’s Kitchen Kids, a series of prototype Danish kitchen tools for children that includes a vegetable peeler, grater, mixing bottle, knife, chopping board, and protective mittens.

Starting Monday, June 10th, Hilary Jay will step into a new role as director of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture. As the Center's first director, she will head the Center's fundraising efforts and programming initiatives. In addition, DesignPhiladelphia, of which Jay is the founding director of, will move from the University of the Arts to the Center for Architecture.
