From man’s first sketches on the cave wall, to the rise of the “selfie,” the portrait has been an ever-present subject matter for artists. The power of the portrait to tell a story, illuminate social injustices, or capture a moment in time lies in the pictorial representation as well as the media and process by which it was made. In Face Value, presented at Main Line Art Center October 6 to November 5, artists Nick Cassway, Mark Khaisman, and Steven Earl Weber uniquely approach portraiture and social commentary through the manipulation of packaging tape, computer cut stencils, and printed glass.

September 8, 2014 – As part of the 10th annual DesignPhiladelphia Festival, Dual Natures Interior Design is pleased to present Style Intersection: Where Street Meets Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014. This immersive design experience and cocktail reception explores the intersection of public and private style—from the clothes we wear, to the art we create, to the spaces we call home. Catered by Feast Your Eyes, the event will feature light refreshments and a cash bar.

Art Star is pleased to announce a solo exhibition, titled Within, by Rhode Island based illustrator, Jen Corace. The show will be on view from October 11th through November 16th, 2014. There will be an opening reception held in conjunction with the 2014 DesignPhiladelphia Festival on Saturday, October 11th from 6-9pm. Meet the artist, enjoy live music, snacks, drinks and celebrate Art Star's 10 Year Anniversary!

Philadelphia, PA, July 9, 2014 – DesignPhiladelphia, the signature event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, was recently awarded a Mayor’s Fund for Philadelphia grant for $25,555.33. Desiree Peterkinbell, Chair of the Mayor’s Fund of Philadelphia, notes, “DesignPhiladelphia showcases the talent, ingenuity and innovation of this great city and on behalf of Mayor Michael A. Nutter we are a proud supporter.”

Philadelphia, PA, June 27, 2014 -The Pearl Street and DesignPhiladelphia PopUp Place creative space project, lead by the Asian Arts Initiative (AAI) in conjunction with the Philadelphia Center for Architecture (CFA), was named a recipient of one of 55 grants distributed by ArtPlace America (ArtPlace) to fund creative placemaking projects across the United States. Since 2012, ArtPlace has distributed grants for a total of 189 creative space projects with $56.8 million in funding.

Rebecca Johnson has been named Executive Director of AIAPhiladelphia (Chapter) and the Philadelphia Center for Architecture (Center). In this role, she will lead the Chapter and the Center, advocating for the architectural profession and the importance of architecture to the Greater Philadelphia community.

Philadelphia (May 6, 2014) - Event registration is now open for the 10th annual DesignPhiladelphia Festival, a signature event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, being held October 9 through October 17, 2014. The Center invites any and all creative industry professionals working in the Philadelphia region to participate in this year's program via DesignPhiladelphia’s new website, developed by Jarvus Innovations. Also, for the first time, DesignPhiladelphia is accepting event proposals from local design students and emerging professionals through its SEED initiative, which will grant ten free spots on this year’s Festival calendar.
