The Delaware Valley FOODWORX initiative - a multiphase approach to addressing the growing food scarcity issues facing the Philadelphia region - proposed by a team from Cornell University takes first prize in the 2015 Better Philadelphia Challenge. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000 at an awards ceremony featuring Dr. Judith Rodin, president of The Rockefeller Foundation and 2015 Ed Bacon Prize honoree.

The Art Alliance at 18th and Rittenhouse was, formerly, a stately residence. It's contemporary gallery does not conform to the sterile, “white cube” mold of stereotypical art venues. The challenge for the 2014 Collab Student Design Competition is to create a chair or seating for the home that incorporates new design materials or technologies inspired by Vitra. Held in conjunction with the exhibition Vitra—Design, Architecture, Communication: A European Project with American Roots(November 22, 2014–April 26, 2015), a juried selection of student designs will be exhibited on the balcony of the Museum's Great Stair Hall from November 18 to 21.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2014 DesignPhiladelphia Festival a success! Our Festival is an annual event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, and this past week we celebrated our 10th anniversary. In over 130 events across the Greater Philadelphia area, we showcased the work of over 400 practicing architects, designers, and creative professionals and we demonstrated the force of Philadelphia’s design, tech, and collaborative business practices.
