Bluecadet presents Happy Hour at the New Bluecadet HQ
Thursday, October 17 | 6:00 PM to 9:00PM 1526 Frankford Avenue Free and open to the public.
Bluecadet, locally-based designers of multimedia experiences, invites visitors to join them in celebrating the grand opening of their new office space in Fishtown. The new space holds 45 employees and includes a 3,000 sq ft production studio for full-scale prototypes of their installations, a library, lounge area, and more. Guests are invited to mingle with the Bluecadet team, enjoy tasty food and drinks, check out some of Bluecadet’s "slick interactives" and learn more about the company.
Brad Baer, creative director of environments, tells me the agency, "creates touchscreens, projection mappings, interactive environments, and websites/apps for museums, universities, and cultural organizations." He's hoping, “guests will get to see some of the amazing work Bluecadet has done over the past six years and realize the high quality design occurring in Philadelphia.” They’ve done work for Mural Arts, The Franklin Institute, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Longwood Gardens, The Penn Museum, and several other local clients. Hopefully people will make the connection to them and to their work when they encounter it around the city. Baer says, "The best way to see what we’re all about is to actually meet us and see where we work."
Philadelphian at Heart
Though their work has been internationally recognized with awards ranging from two Webbys to an Emmy and their roster of clients includes big names like the Smithsonian Institution, National Geographic, and the Tribeca Film Festival, Bluecadet considers Philadelphia an integral part of their ethos. Baer says, “We’re inspired by the grittiness of Philadelphia, as well as the emphasis on art and culture. From the murals around town, to the growing tech scene, to the amazing renaissance in food; it’s been the perfect city to draw inspiration from. While we’re a ‘digital agency’, we have a love of craft and physical artifacts, so Philly has really helped shape our interests and aesthetics. Our team is also made up of several grads from local universities; Philly is part of our core.”
What’s on the Horizon?
Bluecadet has been busy around town. Their most recent project was a series of interactives for the Ben Franklin Museum that just opened. Some other projects currently in the works include beautiful interactives for the Joseon Dynasty show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a mobile game for the Chemical Heritage Foundation, a new website for The Franklin Institute, interactive towers and projections for the Penn Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology, and a 15’ touchscreen for a new museum. They’ve been making splashes elsewhere as well with a recently finished XBox Kinect interactive for the Field Museum in Chicago.
