LAGOS presents LAGOS

Sunday, October 13 | 1:00 PM to 4:00PM
1735 Walnut Street Free and open to the public.

Join LAGOS at their Rittenhouse Square store to experience the jewelry designs of Steven Lagos. For DesignPhiladelphia 2013, the store is planning a mini-expo featuring the fabrication process of the new Bold Caviar collection. They are also offering complimentary champagne and light refreshments. Sunday’s demonstration will illustrate the artistry and craft unique to the creation of LAGOS jewelry. According to the company’s website, “The artistry of Caviar is best captured through its creative process. It takes hundreds of tiny steps to complete the many facets of a single Caviar creation.” Guests will witness this process first-hand; from the initial sketch to hand-crafted wax molds and casting to presentation of the final piece. Janice Wright Waitkus, store director of community relations, tells me that she hopes those who attend will get a better understanding of, “the true art and craft of the most personal form of art – jewelry.”

A Little Bit of Philly in Each Piece
Steven Lagos, a Broomall native, and renowned designer has been building the LAGOS brand since 1977. The pieces in his collection are inspired by Lagos’ many travels through Asia and Europe. According to Lagos though, the architecture of Philadelphia—its lines, structure, and design—remains an endless source of inspiration for him.

What’s Next on the Horizon?
LAGOS continues to perfect their designs for this fall and the upcoming year. Waitkus tells me, “Along with our sterling silver and gemstone collections, LAGOS is creating more designs with precious materials like 18k gold and diamonds. It began this fall with exclusive designs for Neiman Marcus - and will continue into 2014 with Lagos’ signature Caviar beading on thinner hoops and smaller pendants along with bigger necklaces and earrings accented with carved jade, carnelian, sapphire and ruby to layer in color and Art Deco flair.” To learn more about LAGOS and see some of their designs, check out their website.
