The Philadelphia Center for Architecture is now accepting event proposals for the 11th annual DesignPhiladelphia Festival, taking place from October 8-16.
Working with over 150 partners each year, the DesignPhiladelphia Festival offers a wide range of open-sourced, independently organized, public programming to demonstrate Philadelphia's re-emergence as a 21st century city shaped by design, technology, and collaborative business practices. Events can include exhibitions, talks, workshops, demonstrations, tours, open studios, and street happenings - and span across all design disciplines.
But what if you can't or don't want to organize an event? No problem! Here's a run down of some of the other ways you can join the SHIFT!
Activate Pearl Street Passage!
Slated as the marquee event of the Festival, Pearl Street Passage will be a temporary, cutting-edge, outdoor exhibition on the 1100 block that will celebrate the Chinatown North/Callowhill neighborhood. Open to the public from October 8-12, the Passage will be created by 10 multi-disciplinary teams of architects, designers, artists, and fabricators, and offer guests an interactive, educational, and fun time. If you don't have a space to call your own, or you want to support this project and neighborhood, consider holding your event in the vicinity. The DesignPhiladelphia team can help you find a match! Are you a performer or want to offer an outdoor, interactive design experience - we can program you into Pearl Street Passage's schedule of events. Contact Nova Harris for more information.
Show/Sell Your Work!
Back for its fourth year, the Art Market at Tyler is one of the most well-attended DesignPhiladelphia Festival events and offers attendees a chance to shop 'till they drop! The Market is a non-profit art and craft fair designed to support the region's creative community by providing a venue for sale of work, self promotion, and networking across all media, fields and age groups.
The application fee is $15. Booth fees vary. Deadline to submit an application is July 1. Roberta Fallon, founding member of Philadelphia's The Art Blog, will serve as juror. Details here.
Old City District presents Old City Fest - a celebration of art + design, creativity, culture, fashion and food on the street's of America's Most Historic Square Mile - on Sunday, October 11th. The Fest offers opportunties for vending, as well as food and beverage sales. For more information, visit here.
