WE CAN: A POP UP BEER CAN GARDEN
DesignPhiladelphia Comes to The Trestle Inn
WHEN: Thursday, October 8, 2015 • 2 PM to 8 PM
Friday, October 9 • 2 PM to 8 PM
Saturday, October 10 • 12 PM to 8 PM
Sunday, October 12 • 12 PM to 5 PM
WHERE: The Trestle Inn, 11TH and Callowhill Streets (one block from Pearl Street Passage)
WHAT: The Trestle Inn and MIO have teamed up to create WE CAN: A Pop Up Beer Can Garden - a playful tongue-in-cheek response to the many “pop up” beer gardens which have recently proliferated around Philadelphia. Taking place during DesignPhiladelphia’s signature Pearl Street Passage, WE CAN attendees will help transform a grey slice of sidewalk on Callowhill Street into a green oasis by repurposing beer cans into hydroponic planters.
During the event’s four days, the beer can garden will ‘grow’ into a sidewalk installation intended to inspire the public to think of creative ways they, too, can reuse aluminum cans. All 16-ounce beer cans for the project will be provided exclusively by Danville, PA’s Old Forge Brewing Company and sold for $5. South Philadelphia’s hydro+pose studios will provide all the plants.
Members of the public are invited to share their own ideas and photos for aluminum can upcycling on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #wecanphilly. More information is available at wecanphilly.org
HOW: The event is free to attend, and beer is pay as you go:
