2020 PARK(ing) Day PHL festival
- Kids + Family
- The Collaborative
This event is presented by the Center for Architecture and Design in partnership with the Philadelphia Parking Authority, the Urban Design Committee of AIA Philadelphia, the Community Design Collaborative, + the Charter High School for Architecture + Design.
DID YOU KNOW?
Philadelphia has over 10,000 acres of paved streets + nearly 4 parking spaces per household
PARK(ing) Day PHL, held annually on the third Friday of September, provides an opportunity to explore how public spaces could be better designed to serve us all. Parking spaces on the street are transformed for the day by volunteer groups into mini "parklets" the size of a car. These parklets allow us to better understand how much space in our city is given over to automobiles and invite you to engage with cleverly designed, temporary public spaces.
Wander Philadelphia's streets from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm to discover the parklets - where you can learn something, make something, or just relax! A printable map of all the parklet locations will be available for download beginning on September 13th.
PARK(ing) Day challenges us all to consider whether we are making the best use of our limited urban spaces.

PARK(ing) Day was founded in 2005 by Rebar Group, a former San-Francisco-based architecture and design firm, and was first organized in Philadelphia in 2008 by Zimmerman Studio. Since 2014, the program has been managed and presented by the Center for Architecture and Design.
