Join the Center for Architecture and Design for our 34th Louis I. Kahn Award, honoring the design firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R). At the ceremony, principals from the firm will discuss in depth their innovative designs, their inspirations, and their motivations. This event is a fantastic way to learn about the design process architects use to shape the world around us and to be inspired by the most influential minds in the field of architecture alive today. Join us before the talk for a VIP reception to meet the speakers and enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar (VIP ticket required).
Founded in 1981, DS+R is a design studio whose practice spans the fields of architecture, urban design, installation art, multi-media performance, digital media, and print. They are perhaps most widely known for their sublime designs for New York's High Line and for the Line's newest addition, The Shed, an innovative and transformable performance space. With a focus on cultural and civic projects, DS+R’s work addresses the changing role of institutions and the future of cities. The studio is based in New York and is comprised of over 100 architects, designers, artists and researchers, led by four partners—Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Charles Renfro, and Benjamin Gilmartin.
Proceeds from this event support design education for children in Philadelphia, both through the Charter High School for Architecture + Design, the first school of its kind in the nation, founded in 1999 as a legacy project of AIA Philadelphia, and through the Architecture in Education program of the Center for Architecture and Design, which brings practicing architects into public school classrooms to empower children to shape their world through design.
