Monument Lab: Creative Speculations for Philadelphia
(May 15–June 7, 2015)
is a public art and urban research project taking place in Spring 2015. Through a series of art installations, public events, and community-sourced maps, the project asks a central guiding question: What is an appropriate monument for the current city of Philadelphia? We will begin to explore answers at an innovative research pavilion at City Hall, through a prototype monument by artist Terry Adkins, and via free dialogues led by Philadelphia artists and critical thinkers using William Penn's iconic plan for the city’s five public squares as inspiration.

Monument Lab is supported through a Discovery grant by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

Partners include the Penn Institute for Urban Research, The City of Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, the Mural Arts Program, and the Philadelphia Center for Architecture.
