This program is organized and presented by the Community Design Collaborative in partnership with Partners for Sacred Places and the Center for Architecture and Design.

How can historic sacred places support civic engagement, social cohesion, and neighborhood equity?

Join the Community Design Collaborative and Partners for Sacred Places to explore inspirational precedents from around the country on how to reuse aging and abandoned sacred spaces (churches, synagogues, temples, etc.) into new, vibrant civic spaces that bring communities together. This exhibition is the first phase of the Community Design Collaborative's Infill Philadelphia: Sacred Places/Civic Spaces initiative, a multi-year exploration of the topic as it relates to Philadelphia.

Celebrate with the Collaborative at their opening reception, for the initiative on Thursday, June 5, 2018, 5:30 - 8:00 PM:

  • Be introduced to the three sites and design teams selected for the Design Challenge
  • Draw inspiration from remarks by keynote remarks by Rev. Tim Safford, Rector of Christ Church in Philadelphia
