Good design is good business! For ten years, the Community Design Collaborative and the Philadelphia Department of Commerce have teamed up to shine the spotlight on Philadelphia’s storefront façades.

We do this through the Storefront Challenge—a citywide contest that recognizes design excellence in storefront façade improvements. Storefront façades can have a huge impact— increasing visibility, customers, safety, and even reinvestment by neighboring businesses. They bring new color, energy, and fun to the corridors we walk and shop along every day.

The business owners honored through the Storefront Challenge come from commercial corridors throughout the city. They represent both new and multi-generational businesses. Their improvements range from a great new paint palette to a full makeover.

Our special tenth anniversary exhibition presents a decade of design with the Storefront Challenge. See inspiring before-and-after photos of facade improvements, find out where businesses have been changing the face of their neighborhoods, and build your own storefront façade.
