Lyft Announces 2nd Annual Partnership with DesignPhiladelphia

Lyft’s participation will focus on modern mobility through design, including a thought leadership panel and interactive installation.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (September 27, 2019) – Lyft today announced its participation in DesignPhiladelphia, a 10-day festival being held from October 3-13, 2019 that highlights local design excellence, supports economic opportunities, and demonstrates the impact of design on the everyday lives of Philadelphians, for the second year in a row. The annual festival held by the Center for Architecture and Design brings together leaders from a variety of industries with events taking place across the City, including Cherry Street Pier. As a sponsor, Lyft will showcase the concept of modern mobility through design as the company hosts its first-ever thought leadership panel as well as an interactive multi-modal transportation installation.

On October 7 from 6-7 PM at Cherry Street Pier, Lyft will host the Modern Mobility Panel to explore how the future design of Philadelphia will affect how residents live and commute within the City. By uniting around a common goal to create a seamless transit system in Philadelphia throughout its unique design, Lyft and the many other transportation players in the city can work together to achieve a multi-modal approach to transit. As the built environment is constantly changing with new designs and developments, Lyft strives to work alongside key players to leverage it and enhance the ease of travel for Philadelphia.

“Our partnership with DesignPhiladelphia provides the unique opportunity to engage members of both the Philly design and transit communities together,” said Andrew Woolf, Lyft Regional Director of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “We’re excited for the potential dialogue and breakthroughs that may arise during our events. We hope this is just the beginning of many conversations and collaborations to make Philadelphia a better place to live, work and play by designing a seamless transportation system and an environment for effortless city living.”

The Modern Mobility Panel will be comprised of panelists who bring a distinctive viewpoint on both transportation and design, which in turn will spark dialogue surrounding a range of topics, including the future of transportation in Philadelphia:

Jen Dougherty, Director of Long Range Planning, SEPTA
Andrew Woolf, Regional Director of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, Lyft
Garlen Capita, Associate Urban and Landscape Design, Wallace, Roberts & Todd LLC
Alan Spooner, Director of Development, Bike Coalition

In addition, Conrad Benner, Founder and Editor of Streets Department will moderate the panel. As an artist and advocate for change, Benner will bring a unique perspective to the conversation with the ability to curate a blend of both transportation and design thought leadership for the growth of Philadelphia.
Throughout the 10-day event, Lyft will bring their vision for multi-modal transportation in Philadelphia to life with a 10x10 installation called “Modern Mobility,” which will be located at Cherry Street Pier. The exhibit will invite design leaders to enter into an interactive comic book-style city scene complete with bus stops, ridesharing pick-up stations, bikes, etc. The installation will symbolize Lyft’s ultimate goal to help create seamless Philly transportation for residents and commuters. Lyft hopes to engage guests in the conversation regarding transportation in and around the City as well as the role of design through the activation for festival attendees.
