In conjunction with DesignPhiladelphia, the Philadelphia Design District announces its outdoor installation on the theme DESIGN IMMERSION, a design takeover of Old City’s North 3rd Street, Saturday, October 5th, Noon to 6 PM, on 3rd Street - between Arch & Race. Weather permitting – No rain date!
Liberated from traffic and parked vehicles, PDD’s design showrooms, art galleries, architects, artists & makers will spill out onto 3rd Street with interactive installations, demonstrations, and random moments of sheer beauty. Visitors are invited to observe, converse, interact, and to enjoy the new spirit of Old City design in unique and unexpected ways.
The afternoon will feature European furniture, Persian rugs, French Floral design, textiles, sculptures, and installations created by PDD’s diverse members: Biello Martin Studio, K Gallery Art & Design, Kellijane, Minima, Moderne Gallery, Parisa Rugs & Décor, Pentimenti Gallery, Petit Jardin En Ville, Roche Bobois, and 39 North Architects.
Exhibits will include a display of vintage cars from the 1960’s, new works by two ceramic artists: Michael Biello’s sensually cascading family jewels, and works (and a demonstration) by Argentinian-born ceramicist Alfredo Ratinoff; Minima’s new line of furniture from the Minotti collection by renowned architects/designers GamFratesi, Rodolfo Dordoni, Nendo and Piero Lissoni; and a translucent retreat created by architects Mary McClenaghan and Gosia Primavera where visitors are invited to enjoy moments of privacy while maintaining a subtle connection with the external environment.
