Philadelphia, PA, April 2, 2018 – The Center for Architecture and Design (Center) is pleased to welcome Erike De Veyra, Assoc. AIA, as the new Community Outreach and Program Manager. In this role, Erike will manage the day to day activities of the Center’s signature event, DesignPhiladelphia, while providing support for other Center events including the annual Louis I Kahn Memorial Award + Talk, annual Edmund N. Bacon Award + Talk, as well as a variety of kids and family workshops. Ms. De Veyra is a designer, connector and tactical urbanist. For almost a decade, her career has been as an architectural designer and project manager on renovation and alteration work for public buildings, higher education, and commercial spaces. However, in addition to her day job, Erike has focused on her true passions based on the belief that design should be accessible to all – from postcards, toys, a parking spot or window display, to mixed-use buildings. She has showcased her continued enthusiasm through volunteering and participating with many of Philadelphia’s design-based organizations including the Center for Architecture and Design, PARK(ing) Day Philadelphia, AIA Philadelphia, DesignPhiladelphia and the Community Design Collaborative. Now that DesignPhiladelphia is over, what else could there possibly be left to do in Philadelphia? Fortunately, the city is burgeoning with enough creativity to last all year. This weekend, Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (P.O.S.T.) is opening the doors to artists’ studios and creative workspaces west of Broad Street during P.O.S.T. West . Q: What does SHIFT mean to you? A: We are seeing shifts in regards to the neighborhoods that artists are living and working in. Q: In which neighborhoods are you seeing significant changes? A: Germantown is up and coming. We now have quite a few participants with art studios in Germantown. Kensington/Port Richmond is another neighborhood with a strong artist community.
