Collab to Honor Branding & Design Visionary Bruce Mau with 2015 Design Excellence Award | Nov 20 Collab at the Philadelphia Museum of Art shares great design programs and exhibitions all year round, but its biggest event is the Design Excellence Award , coming up on Nov 20. This year the Award goes to the amazing graphic designer Bruce Mau. Internationally recognized for his achievements in design, including visual identities, brand systems, books, packaging, and exhibition graphics, Mau’s Massive Change Network, his most recent work, applies design tools and concepts to environmental, social, economic, and political problems. The advent of 3-D printing and its potential impacts on the future of design will be the subjects of the annual spring lecture organized by Collab, the group for modern and contemporary design at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Hod Lipson, co-author of Fabricated: The New World of 3D Design, will discuss his recent book and share his outlook on dramatic advances that offer the possibility of loading printers with dough, sugar, chocolate, or edibles to make design worthy food. Lipson will also consider the social implications of making such small-scale commodity production tools, previously employed by a few, available to almost anyone.more

In celebration of the exhibition Leger: Modern Art and the Metropolis at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, DesignPhiladelphia, IKEA, Public Workshop, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art have come together to bring Leger’s "City" into Philadelphia. Starting today, October 11th, three teams of teens from Public Workshop’s Building Hero Project will use products from IKEA to design-build three installations inspired by Léger’s The City. The design with the most votes will receive an IKEA Gift Card grand prize and all teams will receive tickets to see Leger: Modern Art and the Metropolis on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art beginning October 14, 2013.
